Shia Misuse of Verse 5:55 (“Verse of Wilayah”)

The Rafidah are known to be Batiniyyah (like Isma’ili Rafidah and other heretics, especially from Shia sects). They masquerade their far-fetched and distorted interpretation of the Qur’an as by claiming that they merely recognise an inner esoteric (bāṭin) level of the Qur’an in addition to its exoteric (zāhir) level.

Sunni scholarship has never disputed an inner level of the meaning in the Qur’an, everyone who is familiar with Tafsir works can testify to this, however, what the Ahlus-Sunnah have opposed from day one is the rejection of the evident meaning of scripture in favor of its bāṭin (inner) meaning.

A deeper anaylses of Qur’anic verses does not mean giving free rein to one’s intellect and thinking in understanding the verses of the book of Allah on the basis of far-fetched ideas, weird notions and claims, lies and fabrications, attributing to Allah things that He did not say on the basis that this is one of the conclusions of pondering and thinking about the revelations of Allah.

The Sahabah were eloquent people who spoke proper Arabic, and the Qur’an was revealed in a plain Arabic tongue, so it was not too difficult for any of the Sahabah to grasp the meanings of many of its verses. In many cases, the meanings of many verses were grasped instinctively (because they were clear) and there was no need for any interpretation or commentary. Hence Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There are four layers of tafsir (interpretation or commentary): that which the Arabs know from their language; interpretation for which no one has any excuse for not knowing; interpretation that is known to the scholars only; and interpretation which no one knows except Allah, may He be exalted – i.e., the ambiguous verses. End quote from Tafsir at-Tabari (1/75).

The Rafidah as mentioned before are heretical Batiniyyah who play with the verses of the Qur’an, they even cut portions of a single verse (last part of verse 33:33) and base their entire Aqeedah on it! In order to fool their gullible and blind-following masses, they tell them that the verses of the Qu’ran have a batin (an inner, allegorical. hidden, or secret meaning) and that only shallow “Wahhabi-Nasibis” oppose these interpretations. The truth is however, that whoever familiarizes himself with the Qur’an will understand that the Qur’an is the biggest enemy of Rafidism and actually and obstacle to their heretical beliefs (hence many of their top scholars openly insisted that the Qur’an has been distorted by the “evil Sahabah”! What is left to them is Batini interpretation of the Qur’an, the distortion of the Qur’an really!

This (their distortion) couldn’t be more evident than with the so called “verse of Wilayah”, 5:55 (Surah al-Ma`idah) that they always cite. They claim that the verse is speaking about ‘Ali (although it’s in plural and Allah has never mentioned his Prophet in plural but they want us to believe that Allah mentioned ‘Ali in the plural, like Allah does with Himself!), they will then quote a list of narrations that say so (especially from tafsir books, as if these books are completely sahih!) and present it as the golden truth, completely dismissing Islamic academia which is to prove the authenticity what they quote! They have even went as far as to make idols of ‘Ali, portraying him as giving charity in ruku’ (bowing down in prayer!).

Idol of ‘Ali (ra) made by the Rafidah in reference to Qur’an 55:55

Everyone reading the verse (5:55) will understand that the whole context (سیاق) of the verse has absolutely nothing to do with the leadership of anyone, let alone the divine leadership of ‘Ali (ra) and another alleged 11 Imams, the whole verse is about the concept of having loyalty for Allah, His Messenger (of course no word about Imams) and the believers in general (hence the plural form!). The verse before (5:54) and after (5:56) also deal with the qualities of the believers and how absolute loyalty is for Allah and His Messenger (no word about Imams)! No narration (all weak) no matter from what Sunni weak will change the clear-meaning of this verse. The biggest irony is that none other than the father of Ja’far al-Sadiq, Muhammad al-Baqir (in Sunni books, not the lies the Rafidah have attributed to him) refuted the Rafidah over a thousand years ago with a clear non-Batini Sunni understanding of the verse that enrages the heretics to this very day:

Abu Jafar (Muhammad al-Baqir) was asked about the verse: “Your wali is only Allah, His Messenger and those who believe, who establish salah and give zakat, and they bow down.” We asked: “Who is meant by those who believe?” He replied: “Those who believe.” We said: “A report reached us that that this verse was revealed in connection with ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib.” He said: “‘Ali is one of those who believe.” [al-Tabari’s Tafsir, vol. 6 p. 186]

The following video by Shaykh ‘Othman al-Khamees (Kuwait) will clearify this for every truth-seeker:
